Peace of Mind Through the Night
Overnight Home Care in Pittsburgh
Nights can be the hardest part of caring for an aging loved one — falls on the way to the bathroom, confusion, or simply the fear of being alone. Overnight home care means someone trustworthy is there while the rest of the family sleeps.

Why nighttime is different
Many problems peak after dark. Bathroom trips are the most common cause of nighttime falls. Dementia often brings evening agitation and confusion. And for someone living alone, the simple fear of "what if something happens and no one's here" can be its own burden. Overnight care answers that fear directly.
Two kinds of overnight care
Awake overnight. The caregiver stays awake and alert all night — ideal when someone needs frequent help, has significant dementia, wanders, or is at high fall risk.
Live-in / nighttime on-call. The caregiver sleeps in the home but is available to help as needed — a good fit when nights are usually quiet but you want someone there just in case. Learn more on our 24/7 & live-in care page, and compare options in 24-hour vs. live-in care.
What an overnight caregiver does
- Helps with safe bathroom trips and prevents falls
- Provides reassurance and redirection during nighttime confusion
- Assists with getting ready for bed and getting up in the morning
- Repositioning for comfort and skin health where needed
- Responds calmly to anything unexpected — and calls for help if it's needed
Who overnight care is for
Families who need it most include those caring for someone with dementia, recovering from surgery or a hospital stay (see home care after hospital discharge), at high risk of falls, or living alone where a nighttime emergency could go unnoticed. It's also a lifeline for family caregivers who are exhausted from being "on call" every night themselves. To set it up, call 412-318-4237.
